ES: JC, Last time I saw you guys, right across the way – Giant Stadium. Saw the opening of that tour. How is what we’re gonna see tonight different from what we saw then?

JC: The last tour was for the excitement and taking it – the opportunity to do a stadium show.

(footage of PopOdyssey shown. Bull riding…yum.)

JC: It’s a much more intimate show, um. We kinda got rid of all the bells and whistles and stripped it down.

CHRIS: The best thing about this show is…we take time out and…and just enjoy what we’re doing and people sit there and realize that, yknow. Yeah, we choreograph things. Yeah, we all sing in harmonies. But when it comes to us performing it’s just us having fun.

JUSTIN: I think that was our main agenda. Like, whatever we do – however we decide to redo the music or whatever songs…whatever the set list is gonna be let’s make this show feel…let’s put it in an arena and let’s make it feel like we’re in a club.

ES: (The tours new opening act is Sean “P. Diddy” Combs.) So tell me about going on the road. You have that ahead of you with this…little group called Nsync.

DIDDY: Nsync, yeah. They put in a lot of time into their show so when there was a opportunity for me to go on tour wit’em and to go on before them..um. I was like sure – I jumped at the chance. You know, even though I’m a hip hop artist, I make all types of music. I make music that…that um. That-that that’s widely accepted or what you would consider ‘popular’ music. So I like to touch those – that audience, too.

ES: (And Nsync has been touching *his* audience. Their last two singles Gone…and Girlfriend…have become hits on both pop and, surprisingly RnB radio as well.)

JC: They call a lot of crossover artists “sellouts” and whatever – what have you. But, um, I think that it’s a beautiful thing. I think anytime you can break boundaries and people can be colorblind, you should definitely take advantage of that. It was an honor because it doesn’t happen very often. And it was beautiful to us to see nobody saw what we looked like – just wanted to hear the song.

JUSTIN: Everything that we’ve ever done since we started has been… completely organic, you know. And um…that’s the best part about it – is that it doesn’t feel like a crossover to us. When we went to go put this record together, it was just…this is what we’re feeling. And to have a new market that may have not embraced your music before – embrace it…(looks at camera and smiles wide) We’re, you know, we’re not gonna complain…and we’re gonna-we’re lovin every minute of it.

ES: (Group member may be doing another sort of crossing over. He wants to go to space – through the Russian space program. Some may ask why?)

LANCE: It’s something I’ve…always been interested in even before entertainment – that’s what I was gonna go for. I wanted to be an astronaut. And um…

JUSTIN: …a childhood dream…

LANCE: They approached me and of course I was like…

JUSTIN: Come on man. if the NBA calls…

ES: You ready.

(laughter)

JUSTIN: Yeah…

LANCE: …say I’ll do…

JUSTIN: Don’t ask me why. If Tiger Woods calls…

ES: You ready.

JUSTIN: I’m playin with him on the next masters…

CHRIS: Man if my…

JUSTIN: Don’t ask me why.

CHRIS: If…if my gardening…gardening…

JUSTIN: inaudible (something about space basketball?)

CHRIS: …gig at the Playboy Mansion calls…

ES: You’re going. Don’t ask you why.

CHRIS: I’m outie.

ES: (points to Lance) When are we gonna know?

LANCE: Um…early May.

ES: Cool.

LANCE: And once I find out I leave that next day to Russia, so…(laugh) It’ll be quick.

ES: I’m gonna give you the last question…

JOEY: Uh oh

ES: There are nothing but young ladies running around here – you got a daughter.

JOEY: (laughter) Yup.

ES: What are do years from now when she comes up and says “Daddy, I like that group…”

?: Oh no…

JUSTIN: This is a question the other…the other four of us have been asking…

ES: I like that heavy metal band…I want a tattoo dad…

JOEY: She’s gonna be on lock down…

ES: Oh come on…

JOEY: (laughter) I mean…

JUSTIN: They’re gonna have The Fatones…the sequel to The Osbournes.

JOEY: I think, I dunno, I mean I’m hopefully gonna, you know, put her in the right path, me and my girlfriend, you know probably hopefully show her in the right direction. Obviously it’s gonna be her choice as she gets older. But um…you know. Just…I think I’m just…I dunno. I mean so far…

ES: You’re gonna be at these concerts in the next ten years. You know that…Singin along. The Beatles and all that goin ‘I know that group…’

JOEY: (laughter)

JC: You need to go with her.

JOEY: Oh I’m gonna…

JC: If you’re gonna bond with your daughter you should go with her.

JOEY: Oh, definitely. No, no it’s gonna be good. I’m excited…

JC: Keep an eye on those boys.

JOEY: I can’t wait til she starts walking around and stuff…and talking. And then I start thinking ‘Oh gosh. She’s gonna be 16 – this is gonna be awful.’
