May 11, 2007 – Life & Style magazine’s Jared Shapiro spoke with ABC News about their talk with Paris as the heiress prepares to serve a 45 day jail sentence as people claiming to be inmates have posted threats on her MySpace page. The interview video at Kaltura has since been removed.

Not Expected To Serve Full 45-Day Sentence

May 10, 2007 – Despite being sentenced for 45 days in county jail for violating her probation, socialite Paris is expected to spend three weeks – and perhaps less – behind bars, L.A. County sheriff’s officials told The Los Angeles Times on Thursday. Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said Hilton’s sentence could be cut nearly in half by state law allowing for credit for time served for good behavior. In addition, he said, overcrowding in the jail system could further reduce the time she spends in custody.

May 9, 2007 – Paris has issued the following statement through attorney Richard Hutton: “After reading the media’s coverage of my court hearing, I feel the need to correct what I believe are misperceptions about me. I absolutely realize how serious driving under the influence is. I could not live with myself if anyone was injured or killed while I was driving while impaired. Clearly, no one should — no matter how slightly. I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation. No one is above the law. I surely am not. I do not expect to be treated better than anyone else who violated probation. However, my hope is that I will not be treated worse.”

Couric Promises No Stories On Paris Hilton

May 9, 2007 – The Boston Globe reports that when in Boston on Monday, Katie Couric was asked whether Paris’ jail sentence deserved space in the CBS Evening News. “No,” Couric said to applause. “We have a precious amount of time on the CBS Evening News and I don’t think we need to ever utter the name Paris Hilton.”
