‘Norwegian Idol’ and ‘World Idol’ champ Kurt Nilsen married Kristin Halvorsen on Saturday (July 29) in his home town of Bergen, Norway. The couple have a son together, Lukas, who was born in January, and he has two children, Marte and Erik, from a previous relationship with Kristine Jacobsen. Check out pictures here.
‘World Idol’ champ Kurt Nilsen was on hand as Norway’s Princess Martha Louise flipped the switch on the 8,000 lights on the 30 foot Christmas tree in Union Station on Tuesday (November 30) in Washington, DC. Read more about the event from Nettavisen.
Top of the Pops caught up with ‘World Idol’ champ Kurt Nilsen and asked the Norwegian if he is offended by being called a hobbit after winning ‘World Idol’ over Kelly Clarkson. “Well, I certainly didn’t come away with the impression that I was beautiful,” he joked. “But no, I didn’t get offended at all. I knew that they would criticize me for my looks, but they couldn’t criticize my music, and y’know, that’s why I did it.”
Darryl Sterdan of the Winnipeg Sun reviewed ‘World Idol’ champ Kurt Nilsen’s debut album ‘I’, giving it 3 out of 5 stars. Sterdan writes, “How did he pull it off? Well, first off, he has a strong set of pipes that are a cross between Bono, Bowie and Elton. Second, he knows how to sing a song without turning into some wailing, Whitney wannabe. Third — and perhaps most important — he has enough musical chops to co-write most of these dozen tunes, which hew closer to guitar-based pop-rock than the typical teen bubblegum and soulful hip-hop. Fourth, he pulls off solid covers of both Duran Duran’s ‘Ordinary World’ and Tal Bachman’s ‘She’s So High’. He even gets bonus points for swearing!”
Simon Cowell says he “hated” World Idol. “I didn’t see the point, if I’m being honest with you,” he said. “They’ve all won. You’re making, you know, 10 winners losers, and the point was that Kelly had paid her dues.” The show’s winner, Kurt Nilsen, is “in agony” after being in a car crash. He “was in a stationary car with girlfriend Kristine Jacobsen when another vehicle ploughed into them at 70mph,” Digital Spy reports. He was released from the hospital and is recovering.
Victoria Newton of The Sun claims to have received a copy of the list of nominations for this year’s Brit Awards. Included for Best Male are Will Young, Daniel Bedingfield, and Lamar, while Dido, Jamelia, and Rachel Stevens are amongst the Best Female nominees. Others on the nomination list include Christina Aguilera, Kylie Minogue, Destiny’s Child star Beyonce Knowles, Delta Goodrem, and Missy Elliott. Meanwhile, Britney Spears and Madonna look to be snubbed this time around. A Brit insider said, “Will Young has got to be the favorite for Best Male and Dido looks a dead cert for Best Female.”

Rachel Stevens’ Holiday Wishes
December 28, 2003 – Former S Club star Rachel posted a holiday greeting for fans on her official website. She writes, “I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I’ve had a fantastic 2003, which wouldn’t have been possible without you guys, so many, many thanks. There have been so many highlights, but I have to say the ongoing success of ‘Sweet Dreams My LA Ex’ has made me very happy. I’m going to be spending time with Jeremy and my family this Christmas and I’m really looking forward to the break, but also to 2004 – there are lots I’ve got planned. See you then! Love Rachel x”
Dan Aquilante of the New York Post spoke with ‘World Idol’ champ Kurt Nilsen of Norway and asked the singer if he plans on taking advantage of his name identity in America by attempting to launch a pop career there. “I would love that, but it is a lot of work and you have to be willing to be on the road for a couple of years,” the soon to be married father of two said. “It doesn’t leave a lot of time for my family. Still, I hope I get the chance to try. It’s now or never.”
‘World Idol’ mastermind Simon Fuller is wanting to now sign Norway’s Kurt Nilsen to his 19 management firm after the hobbit look-alike won the competition. “Simon knows Kurt could be a massive seller around the world,” a ‘World Idol’ source said. “He’d already signed with a tiny company.” Kurt is due to release his new single ‘She’s So High’ in the UK soon.
