What’s The Point Of A New Backstreet Boys Album?

USA Today music writer Ken Barnes took part in an online chat with readers on Tuesday and was asked what’s going on with the Backstreet Boys. “Read a quick interview (in a Christian mag) with one of the band, who hinted they still might get back together,” Barnes said. “But what would be the point, really? Might as well wait till they’re eligible for the late ’90s nostalgia boom, sometime around 2008.” Read more, including his opinion on why Clay Aiken isn’t getting much television or radio attention, and whether he thinks is getting desperate, here.

I remember when USA Today said BSB were over in early ’99. then boom, they released ‘Millennium.’ and history was made.

and if Ken Barnes really felt BSB were pointless, he wouldn’t be writing about them. ESPN doesn’t write stories about the Detroit Tigers because everyone knows they’re losers. ESPN writes about the Yankees because everyone knows they’re winners. same thing with the media. they end up looking stupid by asking “what’s the point” because if there truly was no point, you wouldn’t bring it up.

^^ I remember when they were saying that as well. BSB were smart to take that break instead of consecutively releasing an album each year.

I agree what would be the point for the LONG GONE Backstreet Boys to release another album. It would just flop like NON. The only reason this guy said anything about the Backstreet Boys was because he was asked. He didn’t go out of his way to talk about them. The Backstreet Boys are over and it is time for the fans here at popdirt(all five of them) to realize that and move on. Everybody else has!

Yep, selling 60 million in 3 years while *NSYNC hasn’t sold 30 million at all

Ken Barnes is an idiot. The Backstreet Boys WILL come back! Must they record albums year after year just to prove that they are here to stay?

  6. hardtohandel29 says:

They are the Lost boys’, ‘You know why I say that, because, they are! They never get anything but bad publicity now! I don’t understand, NSYNC isn’t even coming out with a new album yet, so, I think people need to think, before they speak. Clay Aiken is just a rookie right now! Just because, he was on American Idol, doesn’t really mean he is famous yet! Yes, he did sell a lot of CD’s when it came out, but, where is he now?? Did you ever think of that one? Don’t worry about BSB, they’ll come back, and, when they do, It’s gonna be great

Who the heck is Ken Barnes? Um, what’s the point? I’ll bet this guy doesn’t even know what his point is. So what if you say BSB ‘might as well wait’? Doesn’t mean that they won’t be releasing an album. Then your theory might be proven wrong. So ha!
