On Saturday, October 11, 2003, Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean’s Johnny-no-name Foundation will be collecting cell phones at the Merritt Island Square Mall, from 10 am to 2pm. The Merritt Island Square Mall is located at:
777 E. Merrit Island Causeway, Merrit Island, Florida.

I would like to know how the HELL a cell phone will do any GOOD in the world; charitable good that is! As much as I love AJ, and I know his HEART is in the right place…..this is so dumb! Cell phones are right up there with Organized Religion, politics, and Britney Spears as far as evils of the world go! I hate the damn things….the only reason I have one is cause I’m in school and I spend time on the road. It’s an emergency use only sort of thing…and how my mom gets in contact with me when she doesn’t feel like calling long distance! But seriously….. This is pretty pathetic if you ask me. He should be collecting money to put into public school music programs and other arts….collecting old clothes to distribute to the homeless…..food to FEED the homeless…. Cell phones? COME ON..
^ You’re an idiot. AJ has been doing this cell phone thing for a long time and it’s been very successful. Before you criticize this idea (even though you obviously know nothing about it), you should’ve done your research. Then you’d know that these old cell phones are fixed up and given to neighborhood watch programs and women’s shelters. 911 is pre-dialed into them so that in case those people need the police for an emergency, they don’t have to worry about dialing. and then a portion of the money goes to VH1’s Save The Music Foundation. so before you diss a program and say that it doesn’t help, make sure you know what you’re talking about.
and another portion of the money collected from this goes to finding a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.
Dear Elgato: I had no idea that old cell phones could be put to such a good purpose. Thank you for this enlightening information. Kudos to AJ for doing this. It is wonderful.
Whoa. Chill the heck out. Obviously you can’t even be nice to other fans like yourself. You both were half right but geez, there’s no reason to get so defensive. If you can’t handle another fan criticizing the Boys, whoa, I’m sorry. You’re following them completely blindly because if you don’t question some of the things they do or laugh at them or find them ridiculous sometimes, then you’ve got completely blind faith in them — kind of like stupid people that don’t know why they have a certain religion, they just follow it. Next time, my suggestion would be to leave out the first and last sentence of that unnecessary comment.
