Hope Partlow’s Early Struggles With Songwriters

Hope Partlow tells the Quad City Times that she struggled early finding the right sound after being signed at age 14 by Virgin Records. The singer complained that the music she received from writers was mostly deep relationship content that she didn’t relate to. “I was singing stuff that I had no idea what I was talking about,” she said. “I was singing about what these songwriters had been through. Obviously being 14, 15 and singing songs about loving and losing - by then, I hadn’t yet.” To solve the problem, the 17-year-old turned over her middle-school and high-school diaries to two songwriters.
