Girls Aloud ‘Tangled Up’ Debuts At #4 In UK Album Charts
Girls Aloud’s fourth album ‘Tangled Up’ is the girl group’s second highest charting studio album after debuting at #4 in the UK album charts. “Wow, this means so much to us,” Nicola Roberts said in a bulletin sent out to the group’s MySpace friends. “It’s our fourth studio album and it’s one of our highest charting already! Some bands don’t even make it past album number three! It’s really exciting as we feel we’ve grown so much with this album. Our style has changed so much from ‘The Sound of the Underground’ days, as well as our wardrobe(!), and we think we’re so fortunate to still be doing something we love so much.” The girls were beaten out by ‘X Factor’ winner Leona Lewis, who remained at #1 for the second week with ‘Spirit’, Westlife, who moved up one to #2 with ‘Back Home’, and Katherine Jenkins, who debuted at #3 with ‘Rejoice’.
200-300k Opening Week Sales Expected For Britney Spears’ ‘Blackout’
Michelle Nichols of Reuters previewed Britney Spears’ new album ‘Blackout’ ahead of its release next Tuesday (October 30), getting an early read from reviewers on the project. Nichols writes that “some critics who have heard her latest opus say the album’s likely success has little to with her abilities and more to do with the producers” and hears the singer could debut at No. 1 with sales of between 200,000 and 300,000. “Most artists are selling less than they did before just because the album market is down,” said Geoff Mayfield, director of charts at Billboard. “She’s not immune to that and she’s already seen an erosion of her sales from what she did when she was a teen pop star. Even without the adverse publicity that she’s had to weather I would have expected her to have a smaller number.” Spears’ previous effort, 2003’s ‘In The Zone’, sold 600,000 in its first week out. Topping the charts was ‘Crank That’ by Soulja Boy.
Britney Spears’ New Single Likely To Climb Fast On Billboard Charts
Industry experts tell the New York Daily News they expect Britney Spears’ new single ‘Gimme More’ to climb fast when the digital version comes out October 2nd. “I guarantee you, when the song comes out on iTunes, it will probably make it into the top 20,” said Billboard’s Silvio Pietroluongo. “It’s also getting more and more radio play. All of her other songs have debuted in the lower half of the chart. Without a digital single, you can’t debut much higher than she did.” Read more.

Robin also wrote on her blog at MySpace on Monday:
A number 1 on the UK single chart feels great! “With every heartbeat” seems to be one of those records that just found it’s way into peoples hearts and I’m happy and amazed by the response from radio and fans just embracing the song. For a song without a chorus and with a big chunk of dramatic strings on it, it’s done quite well. Kleerup and I are exited about this being the one that gets to the top. I’m really enjoying this moment. Konichiwa Bitches!
