Sara Bareilles Tried To Write More Upbeat Songs For ‘Kaleidoscope Heart’

Sara Bareilles spoke with PopEater about her new album ‘Kaleidoscope Heart’, which is out next Tuesday (September 7) on Epic Records. “The writing process was definitely different in the sense that I was thinking about the fact that I would be playing these songs for an audience, and after three years of touring, you realize maybe what you’re missing as a performer,” Sara explained. “I was consciously trying to write songs that were a little more upbeat so I would have a more balanced set. Because also they’d be more fun to play and move your booty to a little bit, so I definitely made an effort to go in that direction this time around.” Video of the comments at AOL have since been removed.

Whole Foods Premieres Sara Bareilles’ ‘Hold My Heart’

Sara Bareilles checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace on Monday (August 23), discussing how Whole Foods is featuring ‘Hold My Heart’ on their blog and will be selling Sara’s ‘Kaleidoscope Heart’ at their stores when it is released on September 7th. The singer songwriter tells readers:

Whole Lotta Whole Foods

I am so happy to say that one of my favorite places on earth, Whole Foods, is going to feature a new song from my record on their blog….this is double rad, because not only am I happy to share more new music, but I kind of am obsessed with Whole Foods anyway. I am definitely someone to tries to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and spending so much time away from home while touring can make that hard. That’s why when I see a Whole Foods while we’re on the road, my heart sings a a little song and I feel like I found water after walking in the desert for weeks. Oddly enough, gas stations are overrated as great places to eat. :)

I love that Whole Foods features local farmers’ goods in many of their stores as well. It makes it so easy to support the local community while filling my belly with the best of what’s around. I am always happy to be able to connect with the amazing places we see as we travel and I can think of nothing better than doing that through their food.

Yay Whole Foods.

Sara Bareilles 'Single Ladies'

Sara Bareilles performed a cover of Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ for Billboard’s Mashup Monday’s. “I happen to love that song very much but also one of my favorite things to do if I’m going to do a cover of a song is I want to completely reinterpret it,” Sara explained. “It would be hard to imagine it as a doo-wopy voice and piano kind of song, so I started fooling around with that on the piano and it ended up being something super fun and it’s really fun to sing.” Watch the performance and commentary via YouTube below.

Sara Bareilles Recording ‘Gonna Get Over You’ In The Studio

Sara Bareilles talks about having to write some new songsThe third episode of Sara Bareilles for the making of her new album ‘Kaleidoscope Heart’ has been posted online, featuring the singer songwriter at the Village Recorder Studios in Los Angeles working on the song ‘Gonna Get Over You’. Sara said of the track at her MySpace blog:

I wrote the chorus to this song years ago and always loved singing it, but never really felt like I had the write song to put around it. After such a rocky start, this song was the FIRST completed song that I knew would go on my second record. So… it’s kinda like the grandaddy of the rest of Kaleidoscope Heart, if you will. Or if you won’t, that’s okay too. I ain’t mad at ya. It took us two complete stabs at this little diddy to get it right, but I feel like we finally captured the essence of the song which was meant to be sort of vintage 50’s doo wop feel with a modern twist.
Think Roy Orbison in a Hummer.
But different.

“This is the last of the four songs that we came in the studio to start,” Sara says towards the end of the video. Now I have to go back and write some more songs, but these ones have come out phenomenally well and I’m really, really happy with everything, so the new album will be out before you know it.”
