Why Compare Legends Who Are Opposites?

Wow, I am really amazed by some of the things that I read on here, because it’s one thing to not like someone’s music, but to flat out lie and have complete disregard for things that people have worked hard for is a whole other thing.

To the Mariah Carey fans: Yes, is both a legend and an icon, she’s worked hard for 24 years to be where she’s at, and she’s inspired and paved the way for many of today’s newcomer’s. She may have had a brief set-back with ‘American Life’ (which I personally thought was a pretty good album, that the world just happened to not be ready for), but she’s bounced back, and landed on her feet, and she’s not in any way shape form or fashion a has-been.

To the Madonna fans: Contrary to what you may think Mariah is also a legend, she’s inspired many of today’s young popstars (Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, and Beyonce just to name a few) in the 15 years that she’s been in the industry. She’s broken record after record, and has been working hard since her debut. Since most of you seem to think the only thing noteworthy abut her career would be her record breaking 17 #1’s (Most of any female artist, and more than any active artist period), I’ll list a few more things for you, such as….

She has the most cumulative weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, with 77.

She holds the record for the most singles to debut at #1.

She holds the record for the single with the longest run at #1.

She holds the record for artist with the most consecutive number-one debuts

She’s the only artist to have a number one single for every year of the 90’s.

She’s the only artist to have a Hot 100 entry every year from 1990 to 2006.

She has the record for the best debut on the Hot 100. The first five singles that she released went to number one

She is the only female artist (credited as a lead artist) to have held the first and second positions simultaneously.

She is the artist with the most number-one singles on the Top 40 chart.

She holds the record for most consecutive top-ten album debuts in the U.S.

She’s the top selling international artist in Japan and Australia.

She also is the only artist to have won 16 World Music Awards (I bet those look nice next to her 2 Teen Choice Awards, 2 Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, 2 Congressional Award Foundation Awards (Humanitarian Awards), 2 TRL Awards, 2 Fresh Air Fund Tribute To American Heroes Awards, 2 NRJ Awards, 2 NAACP Image Awards, 3 Australian Recording Industry Association Awards, 3 Japan Gold Discs Awards, 4 ASCAP Awards, 4 Jammy’s, 4 Vibe Music Awards, 5 Grammy’s, 5 Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, 5 Radio Music Awards, 6 Soul Train Music Awards, 8 IFPI Platinum Europe Awards, 9 American Music Awards, 11 Groovevolt Awards, 23 Billboard Music Awards, and 25 BMI Awards (Songwriter’s awards), oh and not to mention her International Achievement in Art Award, her MTV Europe/ Asia/ India/ Japan (one each), her RIAA Commemorative Award, her TMF Award, her Capital FM Award - (London’s contribution to music award)- for best selling female artist of all time, or her Make-A-Wish Foundation - Wish Granter of the Year Award just to name a few) .

She’s worked hard for 15 years, and deserves everything that she’s earned.
