AJ Gil From ‘American Idol’ Meets Nick Carter

A.J. Gil of ‘’ was interviewed by KCPQ 13 in Tacoma tonight after he was voted to move on into the next round. Earlier in the broadcast they had spoken with his girlfriend and sister from his home in Tacoma, WA, while he phoned in from Los Angeles. AJ said that he had run into Backstreet Boys star while in LA and that Nick recognized who he was from the show, which had him pretty excited.

‘American Idol’ Host Brian Dunkleman Says He’s Not Gay

June 25, 2002 - Michael Ausiello of TVGuide.com spoke with ‘American Idol’ host Brian Dunkleman who denied message board chatter that he’s gay just days after Simon Cowell did the same on Howard Stern. Dunkleman said, “On the message boards there are a lot of people asking, ‘Are these hosts gay?’ But then, there are six or seven messages after that [saying], ‘Why do you care?’ It’s just ridiculous. Personally, I would rather people not think that… I’ve got a girlfriend and I’m very happy.”

Simon Cowell Nearly Comes To Blows With John McEnroe

June 22, 2002 - News of the World reports ‘American Idol’ judge Simon Cowell nearly came to blows with tennis star John McEnroe at London’s 5-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel last week when Cowell, if you could believe, told McEnroe to stop being rude to the staff. “We both lost it and anything could have happened if we’d stayed in the lobby any longer,” Cowell revealed. “I’m sure we would have come to blows. I was spitting blood because of the way he was and he was ready for it because I’d rattled his cage.”
