Despite ‘Popstars’, Rooney Has No Beef With Britney

Las Vegas Mercury spoke with Rooney guitarist Taylor Locke about the band’s song ‘Popstars’, which rails against Britney Spears, calling her a “bitch on strings” and the “killer of rock ‘n’ roll”, amongst other things.

Locke insisted to Newt Briggs the track is just a joke, and they don’t hate Spears. “First of all, I think that song’s developed a heavier tone than we first intended,” he explained. “As a band, we’re way more offended by pop-punk or nu-metal-the kind of stuff that affects our age group. To me, plays, like, children’s music, and if some 11-year-old girl really gets a lot of joy out of listening to Britney’s songs, then who am I to rob her of that? That’d be like walking into a bookstore and freaking out because some kid was reading ‘The Little Engine That Could’.”

Again, I’m not the biggest Brit fan, but dude. take a page out of Eminem’s book. Get a clue! Ragging on Brit or anyone else for what they do is idiotic. JUST DO YOUR THING! Get over it.

Agree with the first post. Way to take a page out of Ems book. Britney practically revived pop music and brought it back to the music scene. when baby came out, she literally paved the way along with BSB for teen music. Christina and Nsync were their little followers along with all the other clones. if there were never a Britney spears, there would never b a Xtina, Mandy, Jessica etc. and same with BSB. w/o them we wouldn’t see the NSYNCs of 2day, or those other followers. and also, look @ these transformed country stars like Jewel and LeAnn Rimes who made themselves over to be perceived as the trendy pop star like Britney.

ACTUALLY, Britney rode in on that wave as well…..she paved NO way for anyone!
