Toby Lightman And Aslyn Check In After Elbow Room Gig

Aslyn and Toby Lightman are happyToby Lightman and Aslyn checked in with a new tour video blog, admitting to being exhausted after their show the earlier in the night at Elbow Room in Columbia, South Carolina. Aslyn also explained how someone ate her croissant and coming up with a new word “Rangry”, meaning to get angry in the rain.

“We started off the night on a good note though,” Toby said. “We had a lovely young woman come in and sit down with her back to us and then proceed to yell at her husband to get a drink during my softest song, so that was very romantic, because I felt I was a part of their romance.”

The video update at MySpace has since been removed.

Toby Lightman & Aslyn Check In Before Downstairs Live Show

Toby Lightman and AslynToby Lightman checked in with Aslyn her first tour video blog while the singer songwriters were on the Diamonds and Rust Tour in North Augusta, South Carolina on Friday (August 14).

Aslyn talked about a bizarre run-in with a fan who asked her to remove her glasses to advise her to get Lasik eye surgery. They also talked about the home they recorded the video from, which they were performing a show at downstairs called Downstairs Live.

“I do have a funny story from Greenville,” Aslyn said. “I had my glasses on that night and this dude came up and asked me to take off my glasses and I took them off. I was like maybe he wanted to try them on because a lot of people like to see what they look like in them. I took them off and immediately as I took them off my eyes, he’s like, ‘Oh, you should get contacts.’ I was like okay. He leaves for a while and goes and tries to molest (Toby). Then he comes back to me and he just stands there and he looked at me as I was having a conversation with someone else and just sort of stood there until I looked at him. He said, ‘I just want you to know I’m sorry if I offended you and I enjoyed the show’… Then he walks out the door and he looks back and says, ‘Oh yeah, get Lasik’.”

The clip at Toby’s MySpace Video channel has since been removed.

Toby Lightman Is Frustrated With The “Man”

Toby Lightman checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace (@tobylightman) on Wednesday (March 25), upset about the business side of music. The singer songwriter tells readers:

Well as we all know, we have our good days and our bad ones. This isn’t particularly a bad day, but I am going to use this blog (for the very first time) to vent! I have been writing my butt off and having a great time doing it. From David Archuleta to getting songs on Brothers and Sisters.. I have a new song coming out in the new movie ’17 Again’ that comes out next month. (I’ll post the song:) so things are going well post-label:)

Recently, my friend Jeff Probst asked to use a song that I had for his new reality show. He hosts ‘Survivor’, for those who don’t know. Anyway, he loves the song and wants it to be the theme song for his new show!!! Now this is amazing and so great!!! I want this to happen like nobody’s business… but now proceeds the problem, all companies involved are fighting for the rights to own the song. My publishing company won’t give anything up and the show’s production company wants to own it completely… it’s unbelievable that I have the perfect song and the best connection and they wanna use the song!!! and it can get all ruined by greedy companies… I am very frustrated with the “Man” right now… I may need to go down there and kick some ass to get it done. but I’m not very scary…

Toby Lightman’s Style Is Hard To Pin-Down

Larry Katz of the Boston Herald recently spoke with Toby Lightman to get her thoughts on her hard-to-pin-down style. “I think the influences in my music are very subconscious,” Lightman says. “If I want to sing soulfully, I feel the need to incorporate the appropriate elements so it’s not just me wailing over my acoustic guitar. It just worked out that adding programmed beats made me feel free to sing the way I do.”

Toby Lightman Has No Songwriting Formula

Hip Online caught up with Toby Lightman for a Q&A and asked the singer if songwriting came naturally to her. “I really like to program drum beats and I want acoustic guitars and I knew that is where I was going with every song, but you never know that is why you have to try things,” she explained. “I want to write something appropriate for the song and not try to make it a radio hit single. It had to be and it had to be real. If you try to force it people know. There was no formula.”
