The Onion Survives Janet Jackson Legal Threat
The New York Post reports that The Onion, the satirical weekly, was almost brought to its knees by Janet Jackson after it ran a story headlined, ‘Dying Boy Gets Wish: To Pork Janet Jackson’. Former Onion editor in chief Robert Siegal told an audience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison the other night, “We were very nearly sued out of existence by Janet Jackson.” Siegal said their writing staff usually ignores the lawyer who vets the fake news items. The Onion survived the threat and is now a thriving business making $7 million a year.
