March 23, 2006 - Reality TV Magazine reports that for four straight years, the ‘American Idol’ winner has been from a Southern state, and this season looks to be shaping up to follow the trend. With the elimination of New York’s Kevin Covais last night, 70% of the remaining ‘Idol’ contestants are from Southern states. The only three left to stop the trend this season are non-Southern American Idol contestants remaining are Colorado’s Ace Young and California’s Katharine McPhee and Lisa Tucker.

This season, the site is asking people to vote for Kevin Covais, the geeky singer nicknamed Chicken Little because ‘Idol’ host Ryan Seacrest said he saw a resemblance between the 16-year-old singer and the animated feathered fowl. The web site gained attention last season for backing ‘Idol’ finalist Scott Savol.
Mario Vazquez On Why He Left ‘Idol’
March 22, 2006 - ‘Extra’ spoke with Mario Vazquez to ask the singer what was the real reason for his leaving ‘American Idol’ last season. “The real reason,” Mario said, “Was I wanted to do it on my own terms; just take hold of my career.” Mario added that he kept quiet until now out of respect for ‘Idol’, and he only auditioned for a record deal after Carrie Underwood was crowned the winner. Vazquez’s debut album is out in June.
