Betty Curse Admits To Nerves Ahead Of Download
Rick from getAmped met up backstage with Betty Curse, real name Megan Burns, ahead of her Download Festival performance.
Asked how she was feeling ahead of her set, Betty said, “Well, nervous would be an understatement. I wasn’t expecting the stage to be how it is, because I usually like the audience right in front of me. So for it to be oval is a bit daunting, but I’m grateful just to be playing Download.”
As for how those nerves were dealt with the night before the show, she confessed, “I thought I’d get an early night, so I went to bed at 11 o’clock, and I was awake at half 1-2 o’clock. I just could not sleep. I was lying in bed saying, okay I’ll read a book. Then I’d be sleepy and I’d close my eyes, and I’d wake up again 5 minutes later. Fu**s sake.”
Asked what has raised her profile, she said, “Obviously we’ve got a major label behind us, so that doesn’t harm anything. They’re willing to push us and stuff, but I think the fact that we’ve worked with Andy Huxley, he used to be in The Eighties Matchbox, and they’re an amazing band, so I think bands of that band have took a bit of notice. I’ve noticed there’s a steady rise in bands with an image like ours. I’ve been dressing like this since I was 15 or something, and I used to get slated for it as I’m sure a lot of other people did. So I think it’s cool now that it’s becoming more and more mainstream, so maybe that’s what’s giving us a kick.”
