David Archuleta Explains Gay Club Visit To “Worried” Fans

checked in with his Twitter followers (@davidarchie) moments ago to discuss news that he was spotted at Club57 to watch Charice perform for the city’s largest gay dance party. While trying to throw cold water on his sexual preference, the ‘American Idol’ may have angered fans who wonder what the big deal was by suggesting it was a mistake for him to watch his friend perform at a gay club, leaving people to wonder if David has or ever will perform at a gay club himself. Archuleta writes:

Hey guys just wanted to clear something up real quick lol. Last night in New York I got invited to go and see my friend Charice perform..

Mental note to self: always ask where before you go! Wasn’t my kind of place lol, and I had no clue! I guess you live and learn. The..

upside was that Charice was awesome, and she has an incredible voice. Hope that clears things up! Been seeing some of the tweets.. sheesh!

Can get crazy quick. NO worries all, I wouldn’t get into things like that intentionally haha. Hope you guys have a good Sunday!

@ka****albow Back home :). Spending time with the family! I just didn’t want you guys to be worried so had to let you guys know the facts!

@Deb***OD Thanks a bunch! Charice is great and she didn’t mean to do cause any harm haha. She apologized a lot after. She’s way nice lol.

Among the Twitter reactions to Archuleta’s comments (user names censored):

mal****ently I hate your PR, @davidarchie. “I wouldn’t get into things like that intentionally”. What do you mean? A club, or an evil gay club?

clos*****ring @DavidArchie oic. as a “person like that” how should i feel about you acting like a gay club is a shameful thing?

canyon_*****ght @DavidArchie There is nothing wrong with a gay club. Sorry you seem to think there is.

Cat***MD @DavidArchie So, u r saying u want to stay away from those turrible gay people? Or is this about PR freaking out on ur ass?

Bet****nks @DavidArchie It’s sad that your mgmt co is so afraid of “the gay” that you are forced to explain a completely innocent outing #ShameOn19E

buckhollywood: @DavidArchie you would never go to a gay bar intentionally? Oops. You just lost a big fan. Good Luck with your career!

alva****zarro @DavidArchie Going to a gay bar doesn’t mean your gay. The fact that you said you wouldn’t go there intentionally is sh**ty!. A**hole.

c**li @davidarchie Thanks, man. I was just thinking, to make my day complete, I need somebody to make me feel bad about being gay. Again. Awesome!

Ala***am @DavidArchie I guess you assume none of your fans are gay?? I guess you wouldn’t want them buying your cd’s anyway! Oh well, tolerance!!!!

tor****re @DavidArchie i’m disappointed & offended by your tweets. what did you think was going to harm you, exactly? gay people? please.

over****H8 So sad that @DavidArchie feels it will cause harm to be seen (gasp) in a gay club. Is he really that closed minded or is it his management?

Update: David had this to say to a critical follower about the situation:

@ha****ost I have friends who are gay, and they’re great people. Whether they’re gay or not doesn’t change how I think of them.

@ha****st I have nothing against anyone, I’m sorry if that’s how it came across. I’m just not into the partying scene lol.

My goodness people, David don’t need all this. Who cares what he is, he’s a good singer, that all it matters, I mean look at Adam Lambert, he’s gay and people are adoring him. Why can’t you all just respect David’s personal life and let him be!

  2. skyscraper says:

silentsinger21, I think the people are reacting to what David actually said in his supposedly ‘explanation’ why he was at that place. Read between the lines. His statement screams ‘homophobic.’ It’s not David’s personal life they’re attacking. It’s the words he said that inevitably reflects his views if those words weren’t dictated to him.

  3. Nina says:

David did not say that he has something against gays or gay bars, he did not say he has something against people who like to go places like this.

He simply said “Wasn’t my kind of place” and “I wouldn’t get into things like that intentionally”.

    What is wrong with that?

I could say the same thing and my best friend is a gay. And I have been many times places like that with him.

And still I can say:”That is not MY kind of thing”

He did not judge anyone, but now you are judging him!

I wonder what you would like him to tweet so you all would be happy!

    Popdirt,

Let me ask you. Do you know David Archuleta? He is known as a squeaky clean teen who is not usually seen in gossip columns. What people have done is that they tried to find any dirt in him, shaking him right and left, upside and down and inside and out. But they have failed to find any dirt.

He was invited to Charice’s performance without knowing the club in New York. Honestly, dance clubs are not his kind of place. He had an interview with Ryan Seacrest saying that he tries to spend time with family as much as possible because he doesn’t want them to feel different.

He is also not a type of guy who gets himself in controversy by going any clubs (especially gay bars?) as a teen. Is that wrong? If people want to get respect for their different life style, why don’t they respect Archuleta’s life style? Instead of going to dance clubs, spending time with family, going to concerts and movies with friends, just listening to music almost all day… Is it wrong?

You should know that he loves his friends regardless of sexual orientation, race, social status etc. He loves Ellen!

  5. ximena says:

    he doesn’t deserves this !
come on , we know how is David.. a talented guy who loves everyone , never NEVER he offends anyone, he respects all the cultures, races , creeds of all.
He has always tried to build his career off the scandals. Doesn’t tarnish his career with things like these.
We , the fans , really appreciate all the explanations that he gave us.
    All the support to him!

  6. Maddy says:

Wow this is so immature. He doesn’t want to be there because he’s not gay! Nothing against gay people! Haven’t you ever made a mistake? No body is perfect.

  7. vj says:

People are making a mountain out of a molehill, that’s for sure. David is a class act; he’d never hurt a fly or intentionally offend anyone. He has a right to say he’s not a partying person, and I see nothing wrong with what he said. And…..to top of it all of, he apologized for offending people who shouldn’t have been offended in the first place. I would’ve worded things exactly the same way. He didn’t owe anyone an explanation. Next story, please.

  8. Billie says:

David is 19 people. He is not into bars period, no matter what kind. Anyway, wasn’t this particular bar kind of erotic? That is what made David uncomfortable. He doesn’t even watch R rated movies. I wouldn’t even want to go into a straight bar, if people were half naked. Don’t criticize someone because they have morals.

  9. jo blo says:

So what if David is gay and said the same thing about a straight club. I wonder if the straights would be upset by this. Same context of course.
And really people? It’s funny because it just seems like all of you know him personally or something. I’m very jealous. lol…
