Matt White To Release Second Album On Ryko
Singer-songwriter Matt White has been signed by Ryko for his second album, due out this fall. The project will feature production from David Baron (Lenny Kravitz) and Henry Hirsh (Lenny Kravitz), as well as engineering from Jack Joseph Puig (Weezer, Goo Goo Dolls, Sparklehorse, Shelby Lynne).
“Ryko warmly welcomes Matt White to our artist roster,” said Ruby Marchand, Head of A&R at Ryko. “We’re known as a quirky, left-of-center label that is passionate about great songwriting and signature vocal performances. Matt embodies these qualities in his own unique way. His soaring melodies and bungie-jumping falsetto vocals belie his unwavering commitment to classic songwriting and straightforward lyrics. He juxtaposes beefy rhythms with savvy pop in a way that’s serious and fun. We look forward to releasing Matt’s debut Ryko album in the months ahead.”
Matt White Has Been Writing A Ton Of New Songs
Matt White checked in with fans on his blog at MySpace (@mattwhitemusic) on Sunday (January 4). The New York City based singer songwriter tells readers:
Hey everyone, hope you had an amazing holiday, and for you in the north I hope it wasn’t too cold. For those of you who are wondering, I did not have to eat 40 McRib sandwiches for that McDonald’s commercial that has been airing. I am here in NYC getting myself ready to out to the peoples choice awards in LA, CA. I have to go get a tuxedo tomorrow, and have about 10 other errands to run before I jump on the flight. Sitting right next to me is my guitar, but I haven’t been able to find inspiration yet, it is actually 2:15 in the morning. 2009 is going to be great year for everyone I think, I am really excited to see what happens with Obama and I am excited that it was a record breaking year for voting. Been writing a ton of new songs, which always happens when I come home. They are glimpses and ideas on the road, but then they are formed fully when I’m back in NYC. Been meaning to put up more pics from the Vote for Love tour and the Sheryl Crow tour. Hope everyone is safe and happy. All my love, Matt
Matt White Endorses ‘Knight Rider’
Matt White checked in with his MySpace friends (@mattwhitemusic) on Monday (February 18) with the following bulletin: “So as I was stuck in a Travel Lodge in the craziest snow storm I’ve ever seen somewhere between Madison and Iowa City. I caught the premiere of ‘Knight Rider’. It’s pretty cool. You all should check it out when you can. I forgot how much I loved the original when I was a kid. We’re back on the road now and looking forward to the rest of the shows. Hope to see you all.”
‘On Tour With Matt White’ Webisode
A new webisode ‘On Tour with Matt White’ features Matt and his band on the tour vehicle, experiencing a breakdown of the RV, getting towed, checking in from Richmond, Virginia and warming up backstage before the feature ends with the guys on stage.
“Lifehouse tour has been fantastic,” Matt said. “Playing every night has been amazing. We’ve had tons of fun. We have Mr. Mossimo here who sunbathes in his Speedo on the roof. He’s our Italian import.”
Talking about the new album and its first single, Matt said, “‘Best Days’ will be my single and it’s a song about living in the moment and being nostalgic and being young and falling in love and not having any responsibilities. Drinking wine and smoking cigarettes and running away and falling in love and love at first sight. Having that kind of spontaneous connection with someone. The album is called ‘Do You Believe’, I took that from one of phrases from my song ‘Best Days’, ‘do you believe in love at first sight’. I wanted the title to be kind of universal and not too focused. It’s been really great to get on the road and play them, play to crowds and have people singing the words because of MySpace and the internet or whatever. It’s just been a really, really great experience.”

Matt White ‘Who’s Next’ Interview And Performance
Yahoo! Music’s ‘Who’s Next’ features an Matt White in an interview and performance of ‘Best Days’. White talked about having a musical background in his family, being influenced by Americana rock such as Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, and walking to Washington Square Park in New York City during summertime with his guitar to perform when he was growing up.
Talking about his debut album ‘Best Days’, White said, “The whole process was really incredible. To be working with the people that I worked with. There are a lot of different personalities on the album, because my whole thing was like, this could be the only album that I make, so I might as well do every kind of thing I could do. I think that’s why it has so many different influences on it. You can definitely hear, the first song is very Zeppeliny. It really captures a lot of things I was trying to do. There was also a classic like, the fifth song is ‘Love’, an old-school kind of Sinatra-esque song. There’s a lot of different personalities on the album.”
Video of the interview and performance at Yahoo.com has since been removed.

Matt White Cites Bruce Springsteen & Sheryl Crow As Role Models
PopEntertainment.com caught up with Matt White for a Q&A, where the singer talked about idolizing Bruce Springsteen but wanting to follow in the footsteps of Sheryl Crow. “Her first album is a little quirky,” he said. “There were a lot of little imperfections about it, but it was so cool, which made it perfect. Then she got a little harder, and a little rockier. And then she went more folky and singer-songwriter, and then she came back to pop. [I want to be like] Bruce obviously, too, but that’s like saying I want to be President of the United States.” Read more.
