Simon Cowell Blasts Britney Spears & Robbie Williams

In an interview with The Mirror, ‘American Idol’ judge Simon Cowell blasted Britney Spears for courting the excessive attention she’s been receiving. “Britney has brought this on herself,” Cowell said. “I think she’s manipulated the whole thing, like waving a pregnancy test at the cameras. I’ve heard she won’t leave the house until there are enough photographers there. Even some of the biggest celebrities in the world manage to have a quiet life. Look at Tom Hanks, no one bothers him. So it is possible. I hated Britney’s last album [‘Blackout’]. That song ‘Gimme More’ sounded like a ringtone - it reminded me of that awful Crazy Frog song. Utter rubbish. She could well have had her last No.1. And certainly her last meaningful one.”

Cowell also was critical of Robbie Williams. “EMI pay him £80million and he goes on strike,” he said, referring to the singer’s bitterness over private equity company Terra Firma taking over the label last year. “If he felt that strongly then he should give all the money back. People are losing their jobs while he is doing nothing. I like Robbie, but the whole strike thing is complete nonsense. I think Take That appreciate their success a bit more. They don’t take it too seriously, and Robbie shouldn’t either.” Read more.

They do not have anyone in the digital sphere capable of doing the job required. All we know is they are going to decimate their staff.”

Clark complained that the financier was acting like a “plantation owner” who had stumbled into the record industry via a “vanity purchase”. As for what the label could do at this point, Clark said, “EMI can sue or pay up his contract. Robbie needs to know what services EMI can provide to an artist of his standing.” Also unhappy with the current situation at EMI is another sales titan Coldplay.

There will be some kind of something this year. I might just put the B-sides to the next album out first online. Then put an album out in 2009. Which means you won’t be seeing a lot of me on stage for a while. Sorry folks. I do have to say, the more time I’m spending away from public life, the more I like it. Unfortunately I have a massive competitive urge that wants me to put out three albums a year. Which one will win? I’m sure as soon as I get bored I’ll be back. But right now there’s a soy vanilla latte and mince pie waiting for me in the kitchen.”
