The Beatles Set Off Boy Band Frenzy

The Beatles came to America to play music and were not manipulated by managers like many boy bands, but for the last 40 years bands in the genre have followed The Beatles blueprint. These bands - including The Monkees, the Jackson 5, the New Kids on the Block, the , and - target fans, mostly girls and young women, with an attractive, friendly appearance, solid marketing and a bubblegum pop sound. “I think certainly any band would be crazy not to want to follow the success of The Beatles,” ‘The Beatles Are Coming! The Birth of Beatlemania In America’ author Bruce Spizer tells GoMemphis.com. “I’m not sure (if boy bands) do it consciously or if they subconsciously try to do what The Beatles did because it worked so well.”

Today, rappers like Eminem and 50 Cent try to package themselves like Tupac and Biggie to get their success. and rockers like The Darkness try to get the success of the 80s hairbands and people like Creed, Puddle of Mudd, and Nickelback package themselves to be like Pearl Jam and Nirvana. critics always mention pop, yet they never wanna admit that it’s like that in all genres.

I hafta agree with JiggaWHAT on this one. It’s in ALL genres!! EVERYONE today is packaged somehow!! But the article doesn’t mention BSB! NOT ONE MENTION OF THEM! BSB aren’t a BOYBAND!! They never had the merchandising that others have had, they got away from the creators who made them fit into that mold, their music hasn’t been processed EVER, and they put aside the feelings of YOUNG fans and had personal lives that included girlfriends that the world knew about. Sure, it was hard to take for the younger, more influential fans, but good God…2 are married, 1 has a serious girlfriend, 1 has been engaged and was almost the 3rd to be married, and 1 is having a very public fling. They aren’t hiding anything for the sake of anything. Their live shows are amazing works of art…plenty of dancing, but ALL live vocals with the MUSIC as the main priority. BSB haven’t been a BOYBAND for a long time. I resent whoever would include them in the list when there was no mention of them anywhere.

I’m glad the BSB weren’t included in this. People shouldn’t automatically assume that because the BsB are a group, that they only sing “bubblegum pop” or have “teenybopper” fans. That only makes that critic look badly.

Millions of people celebrate The Beatles success…’, ‘every year at Strawberry Fields in Central Park on Dec. 8th (the anniversary of John Lennon’s murder) thousands of fans go to remember him and all around the world millions of people have Beatles conventions to celebrate what they accomplished.
