AMAs Presenting Annie Lennox With Award Of Merit

Annie Lennox’s blog at MySpace announced that the American Music Awards on Tuesday confirmed that this year’s special Award Of Merit is going to be presented to the Eurythmics singer, who will also perform at the event. Previous honorees to receive this award include: Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra, James Brown, Neil Diamond and Gloria Estefan.

“We are delighted to honor Annie Lennox at this year’s AMAs. Through her work with the groundbreaking Eurythmics to her solo career, Annie has always been at the forefront of music. She is a truly exceptional artist,” said AMA Producer Larry Klein.

The AMA’s will be broadcast live from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE on Sunday, November 23 (8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on ABC.

Katy Perry Hosting MTV Europe Music Awards

Billboard reports Katy Perry is set to host the MTV Europe Music Awards at Liverpool Echo Arena on November 6th. “Katy Perry has been one of the freshest and most successful new artists to emerge on the international music scene this year which is witnessed by her nomination in two categories in this year’s awards,” said Richard Godfrey, senior VP, music and production and executive producer, 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. “We want to pursue a much more informal and relaxed role for the host at this year’s awards but with a definite musical twist and we think Katy will be perfect.” Perry is nominated for awards in the best new act and most addictive track for ‘I Kissed A Girl’.

Perry said of the hosting opportunity: “To follow in the footsteps of previous hosts Christina Aguilera, Tom Jones, P. Diddy and Snoop Dogg at this prestigious event is an incredible honor.” Check out more on the event at ema.mtv.co.uk.

The Ting Tings Win Best UK Video VMA

The Ting Tings checked in with fans on their blog at MySpace on Monday after winning at the MTV Video Music Awards for ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go’. They write: “For all you Brits out there…last night we took home the Best UK Video award at the VMAs According to MTV, we had over half the votes…so THANK YOU to all of our fans who voted! You continue to amaze us :)” During their red carpet interview with Fonzworth Bentley, both Katie White and Jules De Martino had trouble with what they were wearing. “I’m not a big follower of labels,” Katie said. “I just like what I like.” Watch the interview below, a VMA performance of ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go’ with Travis Barker and DJ AM, and post show performances of ‘Keep Your Head’, ‘That’s Not My Name’, and ‘Shut Up And Let Me Go’.

Britney Spears Wins Best Pop Video VMA

Paris Hilton presented singer Britney Spears with the Best Pop Video award for ‘Piece of Me’ at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards at Paramount Pictures Studios on Sunday (September 7) in Los Angeles, California. It was the first VMA Spears, who opened the show earlier in the evening, had ever won.

Britney Spears To Open The VMAs Again - No Musical Performance

Britney Spears tells People magazine in a statement that she’ll be at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, one year after infamously sleepwalking through her ‘Piece Of Me’ lip-synched performance. “MTV has long played an important role in my career,” Spears said. “How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I’m excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated.” Though details about what Britney will be doing to open the show, a source told People she won’t be lip-synching to any of her music.

Alesha Dixon Wins ‘Strictly Come Dancing’

Former Mis-Teeq star Alesha Dixon was the winner of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, the British version of ‘Dancing With The Stars’, in a razor close finale. An estimated 12 million votes were cast before viewers saw the 29-year-old singer punch the air and affectionately tell dance partner Matthew Cutler, 34: “I love you.”
