Nikki Yanofsky Hits #1 In Canada With ‘I Believe’

Nikki Yanofsky

16-year-old singing sensation Nikki Yanofsky is the voice of the 2010 Winter Olympics in her home country of Canada with her latest recording ‘I Believe’. Nikki sings the English-language version of the song, which is the official theme of Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium. ‘I Believe’ is the young star’s first #1 single, recently breaking into the top 10 on Canadian radio and passing the platinum sales mark on iTunes Canada, where the song has been a best-seller since its release.

“The song has such a universal message,” Nikki tells CTV. “It doesn’t even need to be applied to the Olympics. It’s really just about believing in yourself and your talent, and that when you’re down, there’s people around you that really do support you.”

‘I Believe’ will be included on Yanofsky’s upcoming debut album ‘Nikki’, scheduled for release later this Spring. The album was produced by legendary producer Phil Ramone and Grammy Award winner Jesse Harris (Norah Jones), and will be a combination of original songs and classic covers - an album Nikki describes as “sophisticated pop.”

The accomplishment marks a first in the survey’s 17-year history, with the 23-year-old landing her first five singles in the #1 spot. The other four #1s off ‘The Fame’ were ‘Poker Face’ (five weeks, beginning April 25), ‘LoveGame’ (two weeks, beginning July 25) and ‘Paparazzi’ (two weeks, beginning Nov. 14).

“Just six months ago, ‘Bad Romance’ was nothing but a dream, a recurring melody, a lyric hidden on a napkin on my tour bus,” Lady Gaga told Billboard.com. “Now, it’s my fifth No. 1 record, and a reminder to fans to always follow their dreams. I would like to thank all my beautiful little monsters and my incredibly supportive team for the most memorable year of my life. Lily Allen Begs Fans To Boost Her To #1 On U.S. Album Charts

Lily Allen checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace (@lilymusic) on Thursday (February 12), requesting fans in America to pick up her just released sophomore album in a bid to land atop the U.S. charts. The British singer songwriter is benefiting from a slow period in album releases, but up against the boost Alison Krauss and Robert Plant received after their Grammy wins. Allen tells readers:

Ok, so I never thought I would have to write this blog. Earlier today my record company told me ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ (my new album) has a pretty good chance of going to number 1 in the US charts this week. I’m currently sitting behind Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, who, quite rightly are sitting at no 1. I’ve never had a number one album in England, never mind the US, and all of this is a bit crazy. I could well be up for no1 here (America), which makes me want to cry a bit. I’ve never begged you to buy from me ever, but I am now. This will be the only time ever in my life that this could happen for me. Help me get to no 1, go to iTunes and download the album, you’re the only hope I’ve got guys. I’ll love you forever.

Ps thank you to everyone who has brought me this far.

I love you always x

Go to iTunes and download, please
