Gavin DeGraw Urges Fans To Donate To Nothing But Nets
Gavin DeGraw checked in with fans on his blog at MySpace (@gavindegraw) on Tuesday (December 9), making an appeal for donations to Nothing But Nets. The singer songwriter tells readers:
Hi Everyone,
As the holidays approach and we get in the giving spirit, consider giving the gift of life this year. A $10 donation to Nothing But Nets, a grassroots campaign to prevent malaria in Africa, is all it takes to send a net and save a life. Instead of buying another tie or gift certificate for a loved one, you can send a net and save a life in someone’s honor. It is truly a gift that keeps on giving – because an insecticide-treated bed net lasts up to five years.
Donate today and give the gift of life in honor of someone you care about this holiday season.
As I am writing to you, more than 17,000 bed nets are already being distributed to families in Nakivale, a refugee camp in southern Uganda. Nakivale is one of 11 camps in desperate need for bed nets in Uganda, and with the crisis in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, thousands more refugees are arriving at these camps each day. Malaria is the leading killer of refugees. The UN Refugee Agency, Nothing But Nets, and myself are working hard to get bed nets to refugees – but we need YOUR help!
Uganda’s rainy season started this month, making insecticide-treated bed nets more important than ever to protect refugees from malaria-carrying mosquitoes. It costs just $10 to send a net and protect a family of four from malaria.
Thanks to fans like YOU, my Nothing But Nets NET-Raiser Team has already raised enough to purchase nearly 500 life-saving bed nets. I can’t think of a better way to enter the holiday season. Let’s continue this generosity and see how many more lives we can save through the holidays. Thank you for your support!
Happy Holidays!
Gavin DeGraw
