March 15, 2003 - Pop Idol Will Young and Popstars ‘losers’ Liberty X were winners at the Brit Awards, but Liberty X’s Kevin Simm has added his voice to the fears the music industry have about new pop stars chosen through a television show. “I think reality television pop programs have honestly had their day,” he admitted to the Scottish Daily Record. “I thought the format of ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ was diabolical. That was its downfall. Getting the girls and boys to slag each other off just turned me completely off. They should have concentrated more on the music and not making the hopefuls take pot shots at each other.”

Liberty X Unimpressed With Brit’s Singles Shortlist
January 15, 2003 - Michelle from Liberty X told Radio 1 she isn’t impressed with the Best Single selection for this year’s Brit Awards. “I just think it’s a bit of a shame that all of the other nominees are cover versions apart from one of Gareth Gates’, and being Best Single category, I just feel as though it should be an original song,” she said. The group’s ‘Just A Little’ is nominated in the category.

January 2, 2003 - The Sun reports the girls of Liberty X, notably Kelli Young, were bombarded with underwear by troops at a show the band played on New Year’s Eve in Bosnia. A group spokesman said: “New Year’s Eve was great and the band loved every minute. The girls had pants with phone numbers on thrown at them all night! They thought it was hilarious and a great way to bring in 2003.”

December 14, 2002 - The Mirror reports that while Liberty X was enjoying time off from their Rumba tour of Australia, they ran into trouble at a theme park. Just as they began to enjoy a thrilling ride, a freak storm caused a power outage and they were stranded in torrential rain at the top of the ride. Then when they finally got back down, park workers replaced their wet clothes with theme-park merchandise.

December 9, 2002 - The Sun reports Liberty X are in talks to sign a major record deal with Universal and Atlantic Records in a bid to launch in America. “Liberty X have the look and R&B sound that will suit the American market,” a music insider said. “They have already cracked countries such as France, Australia and New Zealand.”
