Liberty X Move To Immobilize Phone Crime

March 29, 2003 - The Mirror reports Liberty X revealed that many of their fans had been assaulted during mobile phone thefts, and as a result, the group decided to become the faces of Immobilize Phone Crime - an initiative which aims to curb the amount of mobiles stolen. Jessica Taylor told the paper, “If you call 08701 123123, your phone gets cut off straightaway. Some kids get their phones nicked as a form of bullying and we’re getting the message across that it’s a crime and they can do something about it.” She added, “I’ve lost so many phones. It’s such a pain when it happens and you don’t know who could have got hold of it.”

March 26, 2003 - Liberty X have told Radio 1 how they’re getting a bit of unwanted attention from underaged girls flashing them at their gigs. “We don’t have a problem with it, as long as they’re over a certain age. It was a bit disturbing cos this one was about 16,” a member of the band said. “A few fans have sort of flashed their boobs at the gigs and stuff, and it’s a bit shocking but nice all the same. So it’s not a problem, but it is a problem if you’re underage!”

The girls of Liberty X wore skin-tight PVC bondage trousers for the last of their London gigs on Saturday night. Michelle Heaton tells the Sunday People, “They’re so tight we need to use talc to get them on. If you don’t use it they stick to you and then you can’t get them off. We’ve been doing aerobics classes every day so we don’t put on any weight. Even with an inch on your waist you won’t get them on.”

March 15, 2003 - Pop Idol Will Young and Popstars ‘losers’ Liberty X were winners at the Brit Awards, but Liberty X’s Kevin Simm has added his voice to the fears the music industry have about new pop stars chosen through a television show. “I think reality television pop programs have honestly had their day,” he admitted to the Scottish Daily Record. “I thought the format of ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ was diabolical. That was its downfall. Getting the girls and boys to slag each other off just turned me completely off. They should have concentrated more on the music and not making the hopefuls take pot shots at each other.”

Fire Alarm Interrupts UK Pop Stars

Someone at the hotel Blue, Liberty, and others on the Smash Hits tour set off the hotel’s fire alarm Wednesday night. The boys in Blue were partying in the bar and one rushed to help Jessica from Liberty as she revealed, “Simon gave me a piggy back down the stairs from the seventh floor, which was very sweet of him because I didn’t have any shoes. We were tucked up in bed, and I thought it was my alarm, and I was like looking at my alarm going, ‘Stop! Stop!’ and then I realized it was echoing through the whole hotel.”

September 29, 2001 - The Sun has a transcript of the band’s chat with the paper after the group bounced back from a Popstars rejection.
