Lee DeWyze

‘American Idol’ producer Nigel Lythgoe turned to Twitter yesterday, apparently unhappy about season nine winner Lee DeWyze refusing to present the show’s top prize to last night’s winner Scotty McCreery. Nigel told his followers (@dizzyfeet):

I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn’t present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he’d been on the show this Season. I guess he was shy

The refusal apparently had ramifications beyond the Tweet, with Lee getting no recognition for being in the audience by host Ryan Seacrest. Instead, Lee was pointed out before a commercial break by the show’s unseen announcer. Lee had earlier told his Twitter followers (@LeeDeWyze) that he wasn’t asked to perform on last night’s finale.

The comedy clip at YouTube has since been removed.

Lee DeWyze Kept His Musical Talents A Secret In School

Lee DeWyze dropped by Walmart Soundcheck’s studio to give an exclusive performance and interview. The American Idol winner’s live set included ‘Live It Up’, ‘Sweet Serendipity’, ‘Earth Stood Still’, ‘Dear Isabelle’ and ‘Beautiful Like You’.

During the interview, the 24-year-old talked about how he got his start in music, the lyrics and message behind ‘Sweet Serendipity’, how he titled his major label debut album ‘Live It Up’, how he handled his studio time, doing what he wanted to do on ‘Idol’ despite perceptions otherwise, how his songs are about his experiences, being part of a “weird” club as one of nine ‘Idol’ winners, and more.

“When I first started playing guitar and singing, it was kind of something I didn’t want people to know,” Lee confessed. “I think anyone that went to high school with me or grade school would be like, when they saw me on ‘Idol’, they were like, ‘Hey, I didn’t didn’t know you sing.’ It was more or less, it was for me. I was never trying to be the coolest guy in the class with the guitar or picking up girls. I just liked it. I loved it and I just did it on my own. Once I started getting into it and realized this is who I am. I’m supposed to be doing this. I love what music I’m making.”

May 2, 2010 - Recently ousted ‘American Idol’ finalist Tim Urban talked about being sent home packing and more at the “If I Can Dream” house in what appeared to be an online chat where he was reading questions off a big screen TV. “I wasn’t like really surprised,” Urban said of his exit. “I was kind of prepared for whatever [Ryan Seacrest] was going to say, so when he said my name I was like, ‘Oh, alright. Well, I guess I’ll be leaving now. I wonder what they put in my [compilation] package’.” Tim added that Ellen DeGeneres was probably his favorite judge since he got a hug from the comedian.
