Stephen Gately’s Husband Andrew Cowles Speaks About Boyzone Star’s Death

Stephen Gately’s widower Andrew Cowles is speaking out about the Boyzone star’s tragic death while they were on vacation in Mallorca last month. “We know from the pathologist’s report that Stephen died sleeping with me on the sofa,” Andrew told The Mirror. “I know that my boy fell asleep under my arm, his heart stopped, he didn’t feel any pain.”

Cowles, 32, finds speaking about Gately almost impossible at times. “I have found myself cussing him, just a few times, for leaving me,” he confessed, choking back tears. “It’s not fair, because he didn’t have a choice…”

Boyzone ‘Gave It All Away’ Premieres On Ronan Keating’s Radio Show

Ronan Keating of Boyzone premiered the boy band’s new Mika penned song ‘Gave It All Away’ on his Magic 105.4 radio show on Sunday (January 17), with vocals from and in tribute to the late Stephen Gately. Beforehand, Ronan spoke with his bandmate Mikey Graham.

Talking with The Sun about the song’s video, Ronan said, “The footage is incredibly raw and tough to watch at times but we didn’t want it being too mournful and there’s lots of laughter. It’s us reminiscing about the times we had with our other brother. My favorite scene sees us four sat around a table at the end with Stephen’s favorite picture hanging behind us. To film this video without him was one of the toughest things we’ve done.”

Liz McClarnon Deeply Saddened By Stephen Gately’s Death

Liz McClarnon checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace (@lizmcclarnon) on Monday (October 19), commenting on the shocking death of Boyzone star Stephen Gately, working in the studio, attending parties, and appearing on ITV’s ‘This Morning’. The former Atomic Kitten writes:

Firstly, I have to say I am deeply saddened by the news about Stephen Gately! As you all know I have been a Boyzone fan since they began and I was lucky enough to know him, once my own career began. Last year I took my oldest friend Aimee to meet the Boyz in Liverpool (she adored Stephen) and she was so happy to finally meet him. (I posted the pic on Twitter) Stephen took time for people. He always made you feel like he was really interested in what you were up to etc. He was a good, good man! God, Saturday was such a sad day for so many people!! All I can do is wish his family, my deepest empathy!

Boyzone Pay Respect To Stephen Gately

Ronan Keating read the following statement on Friday (October 16) at Palma Airport in Majorca on behalf of his Boyzone bandmates as they paid tribute to Stephen Gately, who died last weekend of acute pulmonary oedema:

Last Saturday our world changed forever when we lost our friend and brother Stephen.

We have come to Majorca today to accompany our pal on his final journey back to Dublin, where we know he will be given an unforgettable send-off tomorrow.

We’d like to thank the authorities here for their help and for the respect they have shown to our friend.

Stephen and Andrew had chosen to make Majorca their second home and we know that Stephen loved the times they spent together here.

The countless messages of love and support we have received this week have truly overwhelmed ourselves and the Gately family.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for each and every one of them.

We would also like to thank the media for respecting our privacy this week and ask that you continue to do so tomorrow.

Stephen lived to perform and truly loved being centre stage.

You can be sure he’s looking down on us now wishing we’d move over so he could flash his smile for the cameras one more time.

What the future holds for the four of us now is too hard to even think about.

But we know that nothing will ever be the same without our dearest friend, Stephen… Rest in peace, brother.

“I am devastated,” Dochev told The Sun. “I came out of the bedroom and found Stephen dead. I woke the husband. It is awful - I am in shock and I’m ill with it. I haven’t slept a wink.”

Update: Gately’s family is denying he died after an 8 hour drinking binge.
