The Wanted On Fan Hookups, Olympics And Being Called A Boyband

Max George and Siva Kaneswaran of The Wanted celebrate after getting sent new headphones as Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes stand in the background

Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes of The Wanted stopped by to chat with Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Show recently. The guys were asked who is the biggest “slut” and “bitch” in the group, hooking up with fans and if they fear the tabloid kiss and tell, their thoughts on being in a boyband, who has the largest weiner in the group, if the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC inspired them, Siva getting punched in the testicle by Justin Bieber and Siva and Jay getting to carry the torch at the summer Olympics in London.

On hooking up with fans who attend their concerts, Jay said:

A lot of times after shows, we’re in bars anyway, and the hot ones are often old enough.

On fearing kiss and tell hookups, Tom said:

I always said from the first day we got in the band, when somebody does a kiss and tell story on you, you know you’ve made it.

Nathan on appearing on lesbiansthatlooklikejustinbieber.com:

I was very proud. It was a compliment. I’m honored enough to be on that web site. I’m not a lesbian.

On if they like being called a boyband, Jay said:

No. I think that’s generally what we are. That’s our genre. Some people think boybands are cheesy and I think some boybands maybe are but we try not to be and if people are anti boyband then cool, you’re not our fans but we have a lot of people that don’t care, so we’re happy.

On the career arc of boybands, Tom said:

I think that certain boybands have like themselves a very young audience and then when that young audience gets to a certain age, they’re like I don’t think I like that anymore. But in the UK we kept it as open as we could, we wanted to aim at young kids and older people. As they grow older it’s like you know what, I enjoy the music. It’s more about the music than just selling the posters to the kids.

On if they were fans of Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC growing up and were inspired by them, Tom said:

I wouldn’t say I was a fan growing up, but they made some pretty good songs. ‘Incomplete’ by the Backstreet Boys was a great song, and *NSYNC obviously Justin (Timberlake) has done so well. I’ll be following Justin’s footpaths at some point. Move the career along. Joking.

On Siva being hit in the balls by Justin Bieber:

He was intrigued by me. I’m very quiet and he wanted to figure me out and he smacked me in the left testicle.

Asked if he wanted to punch Bieber after the incident, Siva joked:

I didn’t want to ruin his makeup. He had a lot of makeup on that day. I walked in and I’m just gonna say it honestly. I walk in and said that little bastard punched me in the testicle. I’m gonna get him back.

On Siva and Jay’s role in the London Olympics, Jay said:

We got a chance to pick people that had hard lives and still worked for their community. We picked some people that are going to run with the torch, and as a bonus, we’re gonna get to run with it as well.

The Wanted Talk Tour Bus Feces, ‘Glad You Came’ & iPhone Apps

The Wanted members Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes

The Dave Ryan Show interviewed Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes of The Wanted recently, where the boyband talked about entertaining themselves with burping, Tom’s #2 issue, knowing when ‘Glad You Came’ would be a hit, their delayed entrance into America and Jay getting identified playing Draw Something.

On a tour bus story:

Tom used the toilet on the tour van, and you can’t do a number two on a tour van. That’s the rule. Everyone knows that. Tom knows that. He threw it into a bag, chased us in the tour van, and touched our skin with his bag of feces, then threw it out the window to some unbeknownst driver behind.

On the first reaction to getting ‘Glad You Came’, Max said:

It was kind of mixed. We were pretty drunk at the time we heard it. Siva was gone, he was plastered. I personally wasn’t sure because I was like we’ve got an accordion in one of our songs, I’m not sure this is gonna work. For me, as soon as we saw the video, then I thought yeah, this is gonna be a big summer smash, and it was.

First impression of America:

We waited for six hours to get in the country. It was a long, long security check. Six hours at L.A. airport.

On Jay’s favorite iPhone app:

I have an app called Draw Something, which is basically online Pictionary. I randomly generate games with users you don’t know, and I didn’t have a clue that anyone realized I’m in The Wanted, and before someone drew a pigeon, they drew the words, congrats on Idol, and then drew a pigeon. I think my user name gave it away a little bit but… It’s a nickname of mind, but only one fans or the band would know.

The Wanted Discuss ‘Glad You Came’, Tea & Madonna

The Wanted members Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes

JoJo Wright of KIIS FM in Los Angeles welcomed Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes of The Wanted in the studio in February. The British Irish boyband talked about loving LA, tea, working with Ryan Tedder,

On ‘Glad You Came’:

(Joking) It was a massive euphemism. Aside from that, it was released in the summer in the UK. For us, it was the song of the summer and we’re just trying to keep that summer going and maybe jump on to your own a little bit.

If they get sick of ‘Glad You Came’ since it had been out so long:

We never get sick of it. Every time we perform it it’s, you get the same buzz every time. We had a single ‘All Time Low’ in the UK and we performed that for the last two years. When a song gets you like that, it really doesn’t get boring. We got nominated for a Brit award for it as well, so it makes it even more special.

On how UK girls differ from those in LA:

I think the girls are a lot more forward here. They’re a lot more like, in your face, forward. Don’t really care. But I like it. Also it’s the sun. The sun makes people happier. It makes people hotter.

On the Super Bowl halftime show:

Madonna was, 53, looking pretty good. I mean come on, I still would. If she’s not with Guy Ritchie anymore, I’m there.

On if they write their own music:

On our very first album, which we struggled to get on 50%, since then our relationship with the record label has been great. The last one we did was 70% and the combination of the two we did it’s probably going to be more than that, so it’s all about building that side of it for us, because that’s longevity, isn’t it.

On their formation:

So it was created in a laboratory. No, we auditioned for 9 months, got put together and we started writing the first album with some of the co-writers. Did the first single. It all moved really really quickly. In the space of 8 months we’d done a single, full tour, school tour, it went mental.

The Wanted On ‘Glad You Came’ Success & Following Up With ‘Chasing The Sun’

Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes of The Wanted on Virgin Radio

Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes of The Wanted visited with Special Ed of Virgin Radio in Canada, where the UK boyband talked about whether the success of ‘Glad You Came’ created pressure for the group going forward, doing the music video for the song in Ibiza, how ‘Chasing The Sun’ is a continuation of ‘Glad You Came’ and if there was a method to releasing the two similar songs.

On if being on top of the charts brings pressure, Nathan said:

Yeah I think there is more pressure to be good. I think it would be a lot easier for us if it didn’t do well, so we could walk around and quite openly say we’re rubbish. Now people expect us to be halfway decent, so there is slightly more pressure.

Doing their music video in Ibiza, Jay said:

It was great through, that song was the sound of the summer and they had a lot of ideas on what the video should be and we were like no we think people are gonna connect with seeing the party happen that you would imagine when you listen to that song. We had a great time. Every video shoot should be like that.

How ‘Chasing the Sun’ differs from ‘Glad You Came’, they collectively responded:

Not much to be honest. No, we call it ‘Glad You Came’ part 2. It’s like ‘Glad You Came’ but later on in the night. You carry it on.

On whether ‘Chasing The Sun’ getting released was based on ‘Glad You Came’ being a success, Max said:

I think we just had withdrawals after we sort of did all the songs after ‘Glad You Came’ and we thought you know what, we want to finish this story. We want to keep the party going, so that’s what we’ve done with ‘Chasing the Sun’. It’s all about you know getting to that point where the song comes up in the morning rather than a song going down in the evening, so we’re shooting the video too in LA and that’s gonna be massive.

The Wanted Call Christina Aguilera A Bitch… But Was She For Good Reason?

The Wanted sounded off on Christina Aguilera for their encounter with the singer during their appearance on ‘The Voice’, letting New York’s Now FM know that they think she’s a “bitch”. Tom Parker, a member of the British boy band, told the radio station, “She’s a total bitch. She might not be a bitch in real life, but to us, she was a total bitch. She just sat there and didn’t speak to us. Wouldn’t even look at us.”

The interview at worldnow.com has since been removed.

Meanwhile, a person claiming to work on the NBC show painted a different story about an arrogant and rude group who made insulting remarks to Christina, angering her and fellow judge Adam Levine of Maroon 5. HelixK writes at digitalspy.co.uk:

Both Christina and Adam did NOT like them at all. The guy named Tom in the band asked Christina if she felt more beautiful now that she lost all that weight? We were all shocked! She didn’t quite hear the whole question and asked her assistant if she heard what he said? But then Max jumped in and said “She is beautiful no matter what you say” in mocking kind of way. Christina’s boyfriend Matt Rutler was also backstage and didn’t like what he was hearing. Finally Christina said, “You boys better calm down and focus on yourselves.” She walked off really mad when Tom came out and told her not to worry and that “Britney still needs to work on her looks too for X Factor. It must be all those drugs she is on.” Christina was so mad!

The Wanted Denied Request To Film Explosive Video In New York

The Wanted

According to the Daily Star, The Wanted won’t be able to film controlled explosions in New York for their ‘Warzone’ music video, the latest track from the British boy band’s upcoming album ‘Battleground’. “The fire brigade and police were concerned about so many explosives going off,” an insider told Kim Dawson. “The lads were gutted when the authorities said no, but it’s still a spectacular video.”

Max George Still Has Fiance Michelle Keegan’s Poster On His Wall

Max George of the Wanted kissing fiance Michelle Keegan

Max George from the Wanted says he doesn’t blame all of Britain for having a poster of fiance Michelle Keegan on their walls - because he does too. “Obviously I love her and think she’s absolutely gorgeous, so I understand why so many guys are interested and I’m not concerned about it,” the 22-year-old boy band member told News of the World.

As for whether the couple are rushing things being engaged after just seven months of dating, Max says no. “We haven’t rushed in. Even though we’re engaged we’re not going to go and get married next week, it’s a sign of our commitment,” he explained. “Anyway, I don’t think I’m too young. I think you just know when it’s right. And it definitely WAS right.”
