Daft Punk Inspired Adam Lambert’s New Album ‘Trespassing’

Andpop sat down with Adam Lambert recently, and asked the ‘American Idol’ album about rumors saying he was to perform with Queen at the Olympics this summer in London. “I’m not allowed to perform at the Olympics, because I’m not a British citizen,” Adam said.

He also talked about writing the ‘Trespassing’ track ‘Cuckoo’ with Bonnie McKee, which is about partying to the point of insanity, and how the new album has a lot of Daft Punk influence. “That’s the kind of music I listen to,” Adam said. “I listen to a lot of electronic music. I listen to dance music, moreso right now than I listen to rock music. I love rock classics, because those songs for me are vocally challenging, and they have range and power, but contemporary music that I listen to is more like the pop, dance electronic stuff. Now I have the great honor of trying to put my crazy rock star vocals on that type of music.”

Adam Lambert Thought He Wasn’t Cool Enough To Work With Pharrell

AOL Music spoke with Adam Lambert in a Q&A, where the ‘American Idol’ season eight runner-up discussed how he feels like a trespasser on a figurative level, being intimidated working with Pharrell Williams on the new album ‘Trespassing’, feeling good about having a balance that comes with his stable relationship with Sauli Koskinen, being uncertain about a desire to adopt or have children, the beautiful experience performing with Queen at the MTV Europe Music Awards, and more.

“I realized that I really wanted to make feel-good music and we started talking about some producers and knocking around some names, and Pharrell came up, and I thought, ‘Wow, if he’ll work with me, I’d be totally thrilled’,” Lambert explained. “They confirmed it, I got to the studio and I thought ‘I’m not cool enough to be here, this guy is the coolest mothaf**ka out there.’ He’s shaped pop and hip hop over the last decade and I was a little intimidated. What was cool was, after arriving at the studio and sitting down and talking with him, we connected on an intellectual level. He’s so smart, and he’s so big picture.”

Adam Lambert is out with the music video to his new single ‘Never Close Our Eyes’, off the ‘American Idol’ season eight runner-up’s second studio album ‘Trespassing’, out now on RCA Records.

“I’m so excited, you have no idea. I’m kind of in shock,” Lambert told TheFIX in a phone interview about ‘Trespassing’ debuting at #1 on the U.S. charts in its first week, a milestone for an openly gay recording artist. “One of the great things about the album going number one this week is that it proves a point that music doesn’t have an orientation, music is universal. And even though at times it does matter in the industry — marketing and all that — I would love to get to a point where it doesn’t matter. I think this milestone kind of says that.”

Adam Lambert spoke with the Associated Press in a Q&A, where the ‘American Idol’ season eight runner-up talked about having an “amazing relationship” with Finnish ‘Big Brother’ winner Sauli Koskinen, how the relationship affected his creative process, how being in the public eye “makes you potentially more desirable to this, that and the other person”, his arrest in Finland during a bar fight last year being not that big of a deal, the importance of reality singing competitions giving young recording artists a platform to find success in an industry that’s difficult to break through, and how he thinks about the visual process when writing and recording. Adam Lambert, Others React To Prince’s Cover Song Views

Several artists reacted to comments from Prince saying that he believes covering songs without an artist’s permission and blessing should be illegal. “I understand where he’s coming from,” ‘American Idol’ alum Adam Lambert said. “I mean, he’s Prince. I think he can get his way. But there is something to that, because as artists and writers, we create these songs and we have this passion and vision for it. Then the minute someone covers it, you run the risk of it either being great or falling apart.”
