Johnny Wright Discusses Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC Future

Johnny Wright, who manages several entertainers including the Backstreet Boys and Justin Timberlake, spoke about a few of his clients during a radio interview with Chet Buchanan on Las Vegas radio station 98.5 KLUC on Monday afternoon. Wright, who was in town to judge at a talent competition at the New York, New York Hotel/Casino, had this to say about the Backstreet Boys’ return to music: “They’re all working extremely hard and the result has been an incredible album,” Wright said. “If everything goes as planned, the first single will drop this fall and around that time, they’ll be touring in some intimate venues, to get the fans back in the groove. They realize they still have a solid, rabid fanbase, but it’s almost like a new beginning for them so they have to build their way up again. That’s what a long absence does to anyone’s career.”

He was asked about the controversy surrounding Paris Hilton and Nick Carter, but refused to comment, saying, “I don’t talk about their personal or individual lives. And really, I don’t know anything.”

He also discussed Justin Timberlake and what the future holds for *NSYNC. “To be honest, we’re waiting for some important decisions to be made. Justin is in a position where he has a great solo career and if, indeed, he does go back to *NSYNC, it really has to be in his best interest. The same goes for the other guys. Joey has his own Broadway career, Lance is producing movies, Chris has his clothing line and other endeavors, JC is doing his music. I wish I could say something that was concrete, but you just can’t speak on these things until they’re worked out.”

When asked if there will be another *NSYNC album, he said, “I have no doubts that, in the future, there will be. The bond between these guys is air tight. But the timing must be perfect.”

Wright also said that while things are being decided on, the fans can look forward to seeing Justin on the big screen early next year, when ‘Edison’ is supposed to hit theaters. “Justin is going to surprise everyone — it’s huge, just huge for him and all the guys are excited about it,” said Wright.

Justin Timberlake Will Be Back With *NSYNC For One-Off Summer Gig

The Glasgow Daily Record reports JC Chasez says *NSYNC will be back on stage for a one-time performance, including Justin Timberlake. “I still speak to everyone in *NSYNC. We had a conference call the other day. The guys are all great,” Timberlake said. “Joey is deciding whether to shoot an independent film or go back to Broadway. Chris is finishing off his solo record. Lance is working on a TV show and is still hoping to go into space as the world’s youngest cosmonaut. Meanwhile, we are going to get together in July for a charity event, then we’ll get back together after that once the right songs are in place. When the right material gets together, we’ll cut a record. We’re all talking about it. Making a record together again is going to be fun. People have asked why we want to be in a band when we can be doing our own things. But why not do both? The solo life is lonely, but being in a band is great. Justin is cool with it. He understands why it’s a good idea. The band is inseparable and we figure if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

April 5, 2004 - According to The Hollywood Reporter, when it comes time to launch the next generation of stars with tween appeal, Radio Disney appears poised to be an integral part of the strategic planning sessions by the music industry’s hippest decision-makers. “They’re responsible for a lot of success,” says Joe Riccitelli, senior vice president of pop promotion at Jive Records, which represents many among the first generation of mega-artists of teen and tweendom, including Britney Spears, *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys. “I can’t say that they’re responsible for Britney Spears being the icon that she’s become, but if you look at their playlist, ‘Oops! … I Did It Again’ is still being played 30 times a week.” The entire story at hollywoodreporter.com has since been removed.
